Here we’re going to go over how to play War Thunder in VR so that it’s comfortable and looks as nice as we can get it.
Your goal is to find the highest quality settings which will give you a steady 80FPS at least 90% of the time.If you want to get to the actual review, skip ahead to the “Land Battles” Section below. Everything I listed as OFF either has no effect on the visual quality or will have a huge effect on FPS. The biggest impact on FPS with the above settings will come from shadows (and shadow quality), terrain quality, and tree range. Do not settle for 45FPS with ASW as it will make the reticle flicker. 
Supersample to 1.5 with the Oculus Debug Tool and see if you can keep a steady 80FPS in EC, if not, reduce the graphics settings I listed above, or lower SS to 1.4 or less. Lens Flare, Detailed Foliage, AA of Trees - Off. SSAA: None (DO NOT USE THIS if you are SS with the OCULUS DEBUG TOOL). I have used both the original Rift and now own the Rift S, this is my setup on an i7-6700K and 1080 Ti Turbo which gets me steady 80fps, I run War Thunder & Windows on an SSD drive.
